Ugly Sweater Gingerbread

Why wear and ugly sweater when you can eat one?! Our adorable Sweet Creations Cookie Cutter makes adorable, customizable Ugly Sweater Cookies a snap. And this gingerbread cookie recipe is an absolute favorite. It keeps its shape while baking, and cooks up a batch of absolutely delicious homemade gingerbread.

  • ¾ cups butter, softened
  • 2/3 cup light brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/3 cup molasses
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 3 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
  • ¾ tablespoon ground ginger
  • 3/4 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt


Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a large bowl or stand mixer, beat together butter, brown sugar, egg, molasses, and vanilla until fluffy. Add flour, ginger, cinnamon, baking soda, and salt. Mix just until combined. Place dough in a large zip-top baggie and refrigerate until firm, about 1-2 hours. Roll dough onto a parchment-lined work area until ¼” to 1/2” thick. Cut dough with a Sweet Creations Ugly Sweater Cookie Cutter. Use the included imprint roller to gently roll designs into your dough, creating your own, personal ugly sweater. Transfer cut cookies on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Bake for 8-11 minutes, or just until the bottom of the cookies begin to turn golden brown. Allow cookies to cool completely before frosting. In a large bowl or stand mixer, beat together the powdered sugar, corn syrup, milk, and vanilla extract until well combined. Mixture should be the texture of thick honey. Add more milk, If needed to achieve the desired thickness.
