Savor every last drop of summer with homemade Sweet & Sour Mix turned into our refreshing vodka club.
I have a little bit of a love affair going on with cocktails this summer. Can you blame me? There’s just something so grown up and fancy about mixing up your own pretty drink instead of grabbing a bottle of beer out of the fridge, right?
Vodka has always been my alcohol of choice. You can mix it with just about anything and you’ll get a lovely little buzz with a tasty little drink.
Since it’s still terribly hot out there and the farmers’ markets are just bursting with big, juicy watermelons, I thought this would be the perfect time to create a little summer cocktail.
The first thing you’ll want to do is dice up some watermelon and pop it in the freezer. Watermelon ice cubes could not be simpler to make! And the best part is that they don’t water down your drink as they thaw. They just add a little touch of summer flavor!
Now, you can absolutely positively cheat with this recipe. Grab a bottle of sweet and sour mix at the grocery store and just mix it up with your vodka and club soda. There’s no shame in that. But, I promise you that making your own sweet and sour mix from scratch is worth every extra second it takes.
My homemade sweet and sour mix is really pretty easy. Grab yourself one of the Good Cook Cast-Aluminum Citrus Squeezers and the rest is easy. These heavy-weight squeezer are designed to fit in your hand without slipping while you work with juicy, drippy citrus.
- Did you know? To properly use a lemon squeezer, slice a lemon in half and place it cut-side-down, so the flat side of the fruit faces the rounded bowl of the squeezer. When you press down on the squeezer handle, it will actually turn the citrus rind inside-out, efficiently squeezing every last bit of juice out!
Once you’ve got a hefty amount of fresh lemon juice ready to rock, you’ll make a simple syrup by boiling together water and sugar until the sugar has dissolved. Next, you’ll squeeze in some fresh lemon and lime juice. Couldn’t be easier, right?
The extra sweet and sour mix can be stored in the fridge, tightly sealed, for about a week. I don’t think it’ll make it quite that long, though, because you’ll be finding reasons to drink it right up. It’s so bright and fresh tasting!
When you pair this tart mix with a little vodka, club soda, and frozen watermelons, it’ll be just like drinking a refreshing glass of summer. Hope you guys enjoy this boozy little cocktail as much as I do!Print
