Vanilla Buttercream Frosting

Preparation 10 Serves Enough to frost a 2-Layer Cake     adjust servings

This easy to make buttercream icing is a classic for a reason: it’s delicious! Use it to decorate cakes, cupcake or as a filling.


  • 2 sticks (1 cup) salted butter (at room temperature)
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 2 lbs cups powdered sugar
  • 1/4-1/3 cup milk


1. Place butter in a medium bowl with an electric mixer, beat butter until creamy. 2. Beat in vanilla. 3. Sprinkle in powdered sugar, a half-cup at a time, beating well between additions and scraping sides of bowl often. 4. Add milk, a teaspoon at a time, beating after each addition, until very soft (almost like a thick glaze in consistency). 5. Cover until ready to use.
