French toast is one of my favorite breakfasts. It is a family tradition that we have it every year on Christmas. Usually thick cut French toast with maple syrup and sausage is our traditional breakfast. For whatever reason, we hardly ever have it the rest of the year. I used to make a couple slices for my son at least one a week, but even that is rare these days. His favorite way to eat French toast is topped with diced strawberries and maple syrup. Which got me to thinking about a fun twist I could put on French toast for him.
These French Toast Roll Ups are filled chocolate hazelnut spread and diced strawberries. Two of his favorite things in one little bite, I knew he would be thrilled! French toast roll ups are great for little kids, because they can eat them with their hands. Fun for them to just pick up and dunk in maple syrup. Plus you can fill them with just about anything that your family likes. Peanut butter? Go for it, it will be like peanut butter & jelly for breakfast! Want it savory? Use sausage links! So easy to switch up and make everyone happy.
French toast rolls ups are quick and easy to make. All you have to do is use a rolling pin to flatten slices of bread. Then spread chocolate hazelnut spread over each slice and sprinkle on a few strawberries. After you roll them up, just dip in the same egg/milk mixture you would when you make traditional French toast. Great for a special breakfast or even an after school snack. I made these for my son for his birthday breakfast. He was pretty excited, and now thinks they need to be a regular occurrence. Can’t say I blame him, anything with chocolate hazelnut spread has my heart.
