The perfect desserts for summertime aren’t cakes and cupcakes. Though, make no mistake, we love our cakes and cupcakes. But, in the summer, when temps reach high into the nineties (and so often into the hot and humid hundreds!), the last thing you need to do it turn on your oven. Instead, whip up a batch of this wondrously simple Watermelon Granita and fall in love with watermelon all over again.
This treat is seriously so easy. Just slice watermelon with a sharp knife like our Good Cook Touch 5″ Santuoku knife. With a no-slip grip, it makes slicing through slippery, sticky melon a snap. Then blend the pink fruit with sugar and lime juice until pureed, freeze, and flake with a fork before serving. It’s that simple!
Serve your granita in an elegant serving glass, or get fancy and freeze your batch right inside mini watermelon rinds! Summertime has never been so simple…or so sweet!

One mini watermelon is all you need to make a delicious batch of this sweet granite. Icy flakes of refreshing granita are served in a hollowed out watermelon bowl and topped with fresh balls of melon to make a sweet, icy dessert that everyone will love.

- 4 cups seedless watermelon, cubed
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 tablespoon fresh lime juice
- Fresh mint (for garnish)
In a blender, puree watermelon, sugar, and lime juice together. Pour into an airtight, freezer-safe container. Cover and freeze overnight. Just before serving, use a fork to shred the ice into flake. Serve in hollowed-out mini watermelon rinds. Garnish with mint, if desired.
