Perfect Apple Pie a La Mode. How to make a homemade pie with storebought premade pie dough

This recipe makes 1 pie. Preheat your oven to 400ºF and gather your ingredients for one incredibly tasty apple pie:

1 box (2 rounds) pie dough
7-8 large apples, peeled, cored and thinly sliced
juice and zest of 1 lemon
¾ cup light brown sugar
2 tablespoons butter, melted
5 tablespoons flour
1 tablespoon apple pie spice
½ teaspoon sea salt
1 egg, beaten
2 tablespoons sparkling sugar
1 (half-gallon) carton vanilla ice cream

Step 1-2: Line a Sweet Creations ceramic pie pan with one round of pie dough. Prepare apples

Step 3: In a large bowl, stir together apples, lemon juice and zest, brown sugar, butter, flour, apple pie spice and sea salt, until well mixed.

Step 4: Pour apples into crust-lined pan, pressing down firmly to compact the apples as much as possible.

Step 5: Place the second round of pie dough on top…

Step 6: Crimp edges.

Step 7: Cut 4 small slits in the top of the pie.

Step 8: Brush beaten egg on top, sprinkle with sparkling sugar.

To cook: Place pie on top of a parchment-lined baking sheet. Bake for 10 minutes, then turn oven down to 350°F and bake for 55-60 minutes more, until pie is golden brown. Allow to cool slightly. Serve topped with ice cream.

NOTE: If pie crust turns medium golden as it cooks, cover gently with a sheet of foil to keep the crust from over browning.

Easy OodleTip Sunflower Sugar Cookies

How to pipe professional looking sunflowers, turning storebought sugar cookies into beautiful baked creations.

If you’ve ever spent an hour, scrolling through Instagram, getting glazed eyes on the frosting and cake decorating channels, we are soul buddies. Because, we foodies happen to find ourselves doing the same thing, far more often than we dare admit.

Because, frosting. And icing. When done right, it’s just so dang pretty.

Which is why we decided to make it easier than ever to do it right. Introducing, the OodleTip. A one-piece icing bag, ready-fit with a plastic tip, which can be easily snipped into different shapes, making piping like a pro as easy as one-two-OodleTip.

Using a big batch of our Best Ever Buttercream, check out how quickly we turned storebought sugar cookies into a bright batch of beautifully decorated sunflowers.

Fun Flavor Twists

We used storebought cookies, but here are a few other places this icing technique would look (at taste) great:

  • Oreo Cookies. Pipe teeny sunflower cookies atop chocolate or vanilla creme cookies.
  • Make Your Own Cake. Buy an angel food cake, and cover the top with a few big frosting sunflowers. Or decorate the whole thing with stunning little sunflowers.
  • Sweet Suckers. Decorate homemade chocolate or candy suckers with sunflowers for an adorable party favor. Use royal icing, instead of buttercream, for best results.

Rose Garden Dirt Cake

Rose Garden Dirt Cake | Cute little no bake cupcakes, perfect for kid parties and back to school snacks. This quick and simple idea is so fun to make, especially with an Oodletip!

You’ve likely tried classic Dirt Cake before. That yummy pudding and Oreo mixture made in a cup, with gummy worms hanging out the top? Such a simple idea. But we wanted to spruce it up a little. So we grabbed our easy-to-use, one-piece OodleTip icing bags and turned the basic Dirt Cake into these adorable rose gardens. Complete with edible candy top, this fun idea is quick and simple to prep, and looks so pretty on party tables.

Quick Tips

When making this recipe, a few basics that will guarantee success:

  • Small wooden spoons work best. Though there are giant spoons
  • Use sturdy cupcake cups. Regular paper wrappers won’t work. Look for cardboard cupcake wrappers or fry cups, which  are readily available online and in the cake decor section of most local craft stores.
  • Add cake. Stir crumbled chocolate cake or brownies into the pudding for a thicker mixture that will keep your spoons standing upright.
  • Go Big. Decorate an entire pan full of no-bake cake, and decorate it to look like a giant garden. To make, simply fill a Good Cook 9×13″ AirPerfect cake pan with layers of crumbled chocolate cake and pudding, top with crushed cookies and insert dozens of wooden rose spoons  all over the top of the cake pan.
