Super-Easy, Last Minute Appetizer: 3 Ways to Upgrade Your Deviled Eggs

Gourmet Deviled Eggs

Just in time for the last party of the year – you’re going to want to take part in all three of these delicious deviled egg flavors!  Whatever you and your party guests are in the mood for, we’ve got you covered! One basic formula, three delicious gourmet-inspired eats:  Southwestern Deviled Eggs, Sriracha Deviled Eggs and the all-popular Bacon and Avocado Deviled Eggs.  Because – well – bacon.  #baconalwayswins

One of my favorite things about this season is parties.  Parties all the time please.  And by parties, I just mean party food.  Let’s be honest, other than the company, that’s the reason we go to parties anyway right?! Gimme. All. The. Food.

Southwestern Deviled Eggs (Deviled Eggs 3 Ways)

When it comes to party food, I think a staple is deviled eggs.  I mean you see them all the time, right alongside of the bread rolls and spinach dip.  So why not this year, take a step on the wild side and venture to try a new flavor of the all classic dish!  Sriracha Deviled Eggs for those brave enough for the spicy side of life; Southwestern Deviled Eggs when you crave all the food south of the border; and for everyone else – Bacon and Avocado Deviled Eggs.  Who can say no to bacon anyway?

Sriracha Deviled Eggs (Deviled Eggs 3 Ways)

All three varieties take just minutes to whip up once the eggs are hard boiled, and I can promise you they will take merely minutes to be whisked away from the table and into the mouths of hungry party-goers as well! So tell me, which flavor will be popping up at your next get-together?

Bacon and Avocado Deviled Eggs (Deviled Eggs 3 Ways)

Display Your Deviled Eggs

Setting deviled eggs out on your party table can be a slippery affair! Keep them in place with the Good Cook Oval Deviled Egg Tray. This sturdy clear platter is idea for parties. It holds 16 deviled eggs, so you can set them out in style at your next party. Or tote it all safely in our convenient Covered Deviled Egg Tray. A great way to get your gourmet goods to every party!

Deviled Eggs 3 Ways

Deviled Eggs 3 Ways for all your holiday get-togethers

  • Prep Time: 10
  • Cook Time: 25
  • Total Time: 35 minutes

  • 1 dozen large eggs
  • 2 avocados, diced
  • 1 roma tomato, diced
  • ½ tsp cumin
  • 2 tsp lime juice
  • Kosher salt, to taste
  • 1 jalapeno, diced
  • ½ yellow bell pepper, diced
  • Cilantro, for garnish

Place the eggs in a large saucepan and fill with water until it reaches roughly 1” above eggs. Cover and heat over medium-high heat until it reaches a rolling boil. Turn off heat and set a timer for 20 minutes to allow eggs to continue cooking. After the 20 minutes, remove eggs from saucepan and place in an ice water bath for 5 minutes. Remove one egg at a time and peel the shell off the egg. Place shelled egg in a bowl and discard shell. Repeat with remaining eggs. Cut all eggs down the middle and remove the yolk into a separate bowl. Place the egg white halves rounded side down on a plate. With each variety of deviled eggs, mash egg yolk with a fork and mix remaining ingredients into the egg yolk mixture (EXCEPT FOR THE AVOCADO and BACON DEVILED EGGS: mix in all ingredients except for the avocado and bacon. Once all remaining ingredients are mixed in, spoon mixture into egg halves and top with avocado and bacon). Once all ingredients are mixed in, spoon mixture into egg halves and garnish with parsley, cilantro or bacon and avocado.

Christmas time is all about cookies. Everywhere you turn there is a different cookie recipe popping up. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good cookie. But sometimes you want more than a cookie. A creamy, delicious dessert, that takes more than 2 bites to make your way through it. And because we are all super busy this time of year, if it can be ready in minutes that is even better! Christmas Oreo Icebox Cake is the perfect solution.

Oreo Icebox2

Christmas Oreo Icebox Cake is made with a layer of red Christmas Oreo’s, a layer of chocolate pudding, more Oreo’s and then topped with creamy fresh whipped cream. Icebox cakes come together in no time. The layers of pudding and cream help soften the Oreo’s, so it cuts like a cake. The hardest part is letting it set up in the fridge for 4 hours before you can eat it! Plus you can change them up a ton of different ways to match any holiday. Like this Mint Oreo Icebox Cake.

The Good Cook 13×9″ Bake and Roast Pan is the perfect size for any Oreo icebox cake. Perfectly party-sized, you can make a whole batch quick and have more than enough to share. In a large bowl whisk together chocolate pudding mix and 2 cups of milk. Once well blended and smooth set aside. Pour the remaining 1/2 cup of milk into a bowl. How to Make These Easy Little Chocolate Cake Trees in Minutes!

Dark Chocolate Trees Cake

Make a cake festive for the holidays with this super easy storebought cake hack. All you need is a cake mix, frosting and chocolate chips!

  • Prep Time: 10
  • Cook Time: 30
  • Total Time: 40 minutes
  • Yield: 8

  • one 12 oz bag of dark chocolate chips

Step 1: Using a box cake mix, bake a cake and frost it. I used two round cake pans and only one can of store bought icing since I was going for the “naked” frosted look. This means it’s okay to leave some of the cake exposed when you ice it. Step 2: Empty the contents of a bag of Dark Chocolate chips into a microwavable container with a lid. Heat in the microwave for about 2 minutes, stopping and stirring halfway. If your microwave is super powerful, I would recommend heating in 3o minute increments. Step 3: Once the chocolate chips are fully melted and the mixture is creamy, scoop into an icing bag with a tip and allow to cool a bit. You want the chocolate thick but not so thick that it’s hard to squeeze. Step 4: Lay out a sheet of wax paper and using the icing bag filled with the chocolate draw the shape of trees onto the wax paper. Make sure to draw sturdy trunks! You will attach the trees by the trunks to the cake. Step 5: Transfer the wax paper with the piped-on tree designs to the freezer. We laid our wax paper on a cookie sheet so the transfer would be easier. Let the trees sit in the freezer for about 30 minutes. Step 6: Remove the trees from the freezer and then dab a little of the melted chocolate on the trunk of each tree. This will serve as an adhesive to stick the trees to the cake. Stick trees all along the edge of the cake until you have covered the edge with a forest of trees!

Christmas Crunch Cake

How to Make Frozen Christmas Crunch Cake
This quick and easy Christmas Crunch Cake makes for the perfect holiday sweet treat that will satisfy anyone’s tummy!

When it comes to holiday treats (or any treats for that matter), in my book, the quicker and easier, the better.  So putting in fifteen minutes of effort is really all I want to commit myself too – especially with twin 6 month olds!  Fifteen minutes is just about all they give me before needing my attention anyway.  Or so it feels sometimes!

This Christmas Crunch Cake is so fun and versatile, if you can’t find some of the ingredients on hand, it is so easy to customize it however you like.

Crunch Cake 34
Fun variations could include:

  • Red Velvet Oreos or other Red Velvet cookies rather than sugar cookies
  • Red and Green Nonpareils rather than M&M’s
  • Chocolate chips (red and green?) rather than M&M’s
  • Mint extract instead of almond

There are probably so many more, and of course this doesn’t have to just be for Christmas!  Bring on summer months with red, white and blue!  This is the perfect combination of ice cream and cake (yes please!!) and looks and tastes good on any holiday.  Does it get any better??

Crunch Cake 4

Christmas Crunch Cake

  • Prep Time: 15
  • Cook Time: 240
  • Total Time: 4 hours 15 minutes
  • Yield: 9

  • 20 classic sugar cookies
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup red sugar sprinkles
  • ½ cup butter, melted
  • 2 (8 oz) blocks cream cheese, softened
  • 1 (8 oz) container whipped topping, thawed
  • 1 (14 oz) can sweetened condensed milk
  • ¼ tsp almond extract
  • 1 Tbsp vanilla extract
  • 1 (8 oz) bag Christmas mini M&M’s
  • Nonstick baking spray
  • Good Cook 8×8 baking pan

In a food processor, pulse to crumble the sugar cookies. Pour into a medium sized mixing bowl and add in melted butter and both sugars. Mix together well with spatula. Spray an 8×8 Good Cook baking pan with nonstick spray and place half the sugar cookie mixture on the bottom of the pan, pressing well to flatten. In the bowl of a stand mixer, combine cream cheese, whipped topping, condensed milk, vanilla and almond extract, beating well to combine. Once combined, fold in the mini M&M’s using a spatula. Pour ice cream mixture into the baking pan and smooth out top. Top with remaining sugar cookie mixture, pressing down slightly. Cover with plastic wrap and place in freezer for 4 hours, or until set. Cut into bars and serve immediately.

Holiday Breakfast Casserole: Easy, Cheesy Sausage and Potato Bake

How to Make a Christmas Breakfast Casserole
Breakfast is such a special time of the day in our house on holidays and weekends.

Throughout the week, the mornings are rushed. Everyone grabs a bowl of cereal or microwaves themselves some oatmeal. If we’re really lucky, there might be a leftover muffin or two to devour. Weekday breakfasts are hurried, as we’re all getting ready for work and school.

Weekends, however, are perfect for a hearty breakfast. Something hot and filling, full of protein and maybe some veggies, served to a table full of family dressed in pajamas. It doesn’t get much better than that, does it?

Of course, just because I like to serve a big breakfast on weekends and holidays, this doesn’t mean that I like to spend my entire morning cooking. No, weekends are my lazy time.

Cheesy potatoes and spicy sausage make this easy breakfast casserole a family favorite!

Enter this simple sausage and potato breakfast casserole. With a short list of ingredients and minimal prep time, it’s the perfect option for a family breakfast.

I keep this extra easy by using a well seasoned sausage. My family loves the “hot” breakfast sausage, but mild will work as well. You might consider trying the maple sausage as well, for a sweet and salty twist to this recipe.

I also keep the prep work to a minimum by starting with a bag of frozen hash browns mixed with peppers and onions. Most brands call these potatoes O’Brien and they’re a great way to cut time in the kitchen. No need to chop your own veggies and dirty extra dishes here!

Everything bakes up hot and bubbly, oozing with cheese and bursting with flavor, in a Good Cook AirPerfect 9×13 Baking Dish. This heavy-gauge nonstick pan is my favorite – it’s so versatile and goes from breakfast casserole to brownies in the blink of an eye. Not that you’ll be needing brownies anytime soon after munching on this filling breakfast!

This is especially good on Christmas morning. At my house, the kids get lots of candy in their stockings, so serving something hearty and savory like this breakfast casserole is a must to keep them from having too much sugar first thing in the morning.

Cheesy potatoes and spicy sausage make this easy breakfast casserole a family favorite!

Cheesy Sausage & Potato Breakfast Casserole

An easy, cheesy casserole loaded with potatoes, sausage, and eggs.

  • Prep Time: 15
  • Cook Time: 40
  • Total Time: 55 minutes
  • Yield: 8

  • 1 pound spicy breakfast sausage
  • 28 ounce bag frozen hash browns with peppers and onions
  • 1 cup grated colby jack cheese
  • 6 eggs
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/4 cup chopped green onions

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Brown the sausage, crumbling it as it cooks, over medium heat in a large skillet. Drain the grease and add to a large mixing bowl. Stir in the potatoes and cheese to combine. In a small bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, salt, and pepper. Pour over the potato mixture and stir to coat. Spray a 9×13 baking dish with non-stick spray. Add potato mixture to the pan and bake, covered, for 25 minutes. Remove cover from pan and continue baking for 15 minutes. Sprinkle with green onions before serving.
